Screening advisers by products and scale selects firms by what they sell and how big they are: the vehicles a firm issues, the asset classes its money buys, the geographies its brochure claims, and its self-reported regulatory AUM. The product and asset-class vocabularies are deliberately separate questions, and the scale axis carries a structural rule about exempt reporting advisers that decides what a ranking can see.

Vehicles Versus Asset Classes — Two Vocabularies

string
What the firm issues; comma-separated, matches ANY: mutual_fund, etf, private_fund, separately_managed_account, model_portfolio, wrap_program, closed_end_fund, interval_fund, collective_investment_trust, ucits, annuity_insurance, section_529_plan.
string
What the money buys; comma-separated, matches ANY: equity, fixed_income, real_estate, private_equity, private_credit, structured_credit, structured_products, bank_loans, commodities, currencies, digital_assets, derivatives, infrastructure, multi_asset, cash.
The two are never interchangeable: an ETF issuer that buys bonds is product_types=etf plus asset_classes=fixed_income.
string
Where the brochure says the money goes: global, us, north_america, international_ex_us, emerging_markets, europe, asia_pacific, japan, latin_america, middle_east_africa. Most brochures name none — this returns the firms that wrote it down, not the complete list of managers in a region.

The Scale Filters

number
Total regulatory AUM floor in USD, self-reported on ADV Part 1; max_aum sets the ceiling. This family spells bounds min_/max_ — not the _gte/_lte of the company screen — and an unknown parameter returns a 400 rather than being silently ignored.

Sorting Drops a Whole Registration Class

An exempt reporting adviser files an abbreviated ADV that reports no AUM, no account count and no headcount, so the sorts aum_total, aum_discretionary, accounts_total and employee_count all drop every ERA — and any AUM bound excludes them too. crd is the only sort that keeps every firm, and paging it at limit=1000 is the full-roster export path. When a sort empties the page, read the unranked block before concluding nothing matched.

The Coverage Switches

boolean
true restricts to firms whose Part 2A brochure is in the store. Every brochure filter on any adviser page silently narrows to that population — this switch, and the facets totals, make the narrowing visible instead of reading as “few firms do this”.
boolean
true restricts to 13F filers with a computed style row.
