Private Companies covers about 375 private companies: the global unicorn list plus the larger US private companies. For each one you get its latest closed valuation, latest round and revenue, each with its own date and sources; whether it is still operating as a private company; every round that can be sourced, from press reports and SEC Form D filings; and how US mutual funds have marked its shares in their SEC Form N-PORT filings. MCP tool: get_private_company — see Connect via MCP.
Plan: Fund · Credits: 1 per call
This dataset is available on the Fund plan only. On the Free and Professional plans, every endpoint on this page returns 402 with a message naming the dataset, and no credits are spent. Contact sales to enable it.

What you can use private companies for

Find what a private company was last valued at, and the round that set it. Check whether it has been acquired, gone public or shut down. List its rounds side by side with its Form D filings. See whether the funds that hold it have marked it up or down since its last round.

Find the company_id

Every route is keyed on a private company’s company_id, which starts with cmp_p. Tickers and names are not accepted here. Search the Company Registry by name with q; private companies come back with entity_kind: "private".

How to read the figures

  • Every figure is sourced. Each was checked against a press report, a company announcement or a filing, and carries that source. Nothing is an estimate.
  • The date on a valuation is the date of the round that set it. A 2021 figure on a company that has not raised since is still its last valuation, not stale data.
  • unit is the currency as reported. eur, gbp, cad, cny and krw figures are never converted.
  • pending is never the current figure. A newer valuation or round that is only in talks (reported_talks), announced but not closed (announced_not_closed) or proposed (proposed) is listed separately. Quote the closed figure and say that talks exist.
  • status.confirmed: false means no 2025–26 source either way. It does not mean the company is gone.

What absence means

A company outside the reviewed list returns 404 with a reason: either it is not in the private-company coverage, or it is not a private company at all and the listed-company datasets apply. A 404 here means not covered, never “no funding”. A round missing from funding was not sourced, which is not evidence that it did not happen. A company with no fund_marks is simply not held by a reporting fund.

Private company coverage

About 375 companies, each reviewed by hand: status, latest valuation, latest round and revenue. The headline card is current state, rebuilt by review passes rather than a daily feed, so there is no time series of “the valuation as of date X”. Form D offerings start in 2021-10. Fund marks start with the 2019-09-30 N-PORT reporting period and exist for the roughly 70 companies that US registered funds hold.

GET /v1/private-companies/{company_id}

The headline card for one company.
  • name, entity_kind, country and website identify the company.
  • status.confirmed says whether a 2025–26 source shows the company operating as described; status.checked_on is when that was last checked. status.latest_event is the newest status event, such as an acquisition, an announced acquisition, a controlling stake (with the stake in ratio), an IPO, a shutdown or a bankruptcy.
  • valuation, latest_round and revenue are the latest closed figure of each, with value, unit, basis, round_label, period, as_of_date, as_of_precision, stated_by and sources (publisher, date, url, quote).
  • pending lists figures that have not closed, each with kind (valuation or funding_round) and status.
  • fund_marks is the same summary that the fund-marks endpoint below returns as summary, or null when no reporting fund holds the company.
string
required
The private company’s company_id, cmp_p….

GET /v1/private-companies/{company_id}/funding

Every sourced round, newest first. source_kind says where a row comes from:
  • news_verified — a round, valuation, tender offer or secondary sale checked against a press report or company announcement, with lead_investors, other_investors and sources.
  • sec_form_d — the Form D the company filed for an offering: the amount actually sold in value, target_amount_usd, n_investors, is_equity and is_debt, first_filed and last_filed, revenue_range and the EDGAR sec_url.
metric is funding_round, valuation, tender_offer, secondary_sale or total_funding. A status other than closed means the round has not closed. amount_undisclosed: true is a real round with no published amount. value_min, value_max and comparator carry ranges and “more than” figures as reported.
A Form D and a press report of the same financing routinely differ in amount and date. Show them side by side rather than merging them.
string
required
The private company’s company_id, cmp_p….
This endpoint returns every row in one page; next_cursor is always null.

GET /v1/private-companies/{company_id}/fund-marks

How US mutual funds have marked the company’s shares, quarter by quarter, from SEC Form N-PORT.
  • series gives, per report_date, the cross-fund median_price per share, the number of funds (n_funds) and the number of holdings rows (n_rows).
  • summary gives the change since the latest closed round: median_change, p25_change, p75_change, min_change and max_change, measured from base_mark_date to latest_mark_date against the round named by anchor_metric, anchor_period and anchor_date. n_funds counts funds; n_views counts independent marks, because one manager’s identical funds count once.
  • funds=true adds funds: each fund’s own chain, with fund_cik, fund_name, security, report_date, price_per_share, shares and fair_value_level.
Fund marks are a signal, not a valuation. Funds hold different share classes, re-mark on their own schedules, and usually move to a new round’s price only after it closes, so a flat median can mean nobody re-marked. A mark of 0 is a real write-off. Per-share prices cannot be turned into a company value without the share count, which the filings omit.
string
required
The private company’s company_id, cmp_p….
boolean
default:"false"
true adds each fund’s own chain of marks.
string
Only reporting dates on or after this day, YYYY-MM-DD.
If the data source cannot be read, every endpoint on this page returns 503 rather than an empty result. See also Company Registry to find a private company’s company_id, Venture Investors for the firms that back these companies, and Institutional Holdings for what listed-equity managers hold.
